Günter Wand ne fut jamais une star comme Karajan, mais ses enregistrements témoignent d’un art profond et subtil de la direction d’orchestre, dont nous profitons cette semaine avec Mozart, Beethoven ou Schubert, écoutant au cours de ces cinq émissions l’intégralité des Carmina Burana de Carl Orff.

Günter Wand est un chef d'orchestre et compositeur allemand né le 7 janvier 1912 à Elberfeld et mort le 14 février 2002 à Ulmiz (près de Berne).

Avec Kurt Sanderling, Günter Wand était le dernier représentant d'une génération de chefs d'orchestre allemands formés dans l'héritage direct de Wagner, Bruckner et Mahler.

Il étudie la composition avec Philipp Jarnach et le piano avec Paul Baumgartner mais est largement autodidacte en tant que chef d'orchestre. Il commence sa carrière à Cologne où il dirige d'abord des opérettes, des ballets d'opéras puis des opéras pendant dix ans.
