Christa Ludwig nous a quittés le 24 avril dernier. Pour rendre hommage à l'une des plus grandes musiciennes de son temps, nous lui consacrons nos Arabesques toute cette semaine. Elle-même considérée comme une "institution viennoise" nous l'écouterons aujourd'hui dans Brahms, Mahler et Strauss.
Elle était considérée comme l’une des plus grandes voix de la deuxième moitié du XXe siècle. Sous la conduite de chefs d’orchestre prestigieux comme Klemperer, Karajan, Böhm et Bernstein, la mezzo-soprano s’est produite sur les plus importantes scènes du monde pendant près d’un demi-siècle, entre 1946 et 1994, l’année de sa retraite.
Interprète hors pair de Lieder de Schubert et de Brahms, entrée dans la légende pour ses exceptionnelles qualités vocales et scéniques ; elle a été l’une des rares cantatrices capables d'alterner les genres et les répertoires les plus différents, de Mozart à Wagner.
