1971. John Adams décide de quitter le monde académique de la côte Est et de partir pour San Francisco. La découverte des grands espaces, de l’océan et du ciel californiens inspirera entre autres chefs-d’œuvre d’Adams le magique "The Dharma at Big Sur".
