Paul Paray, d'abord connu comme un des grands chefs d'orchestre du XXème siècle, fut également un excellent compositeur. Il fait ses débuts à la direction aux côtés de Camille Chevillard en 1920. Infatigable, il dirigera jusqu'à ses derniers jours, précédé d'une réputation de bâtisseur d'orchestres.
