C'est à presque 30 ans que Beethoven offre au public sa 1ère Symphonie. A 35 ans, Mozart était mort en laissant 41 Symphonies. Haydn dépassait quant à lui la 100aine. Même le baron van Swieten (dédicataire de la 1ère Symphonie de Beethoven) en avait écrit aisément une douzaine.
