Aux côtés de Bach et Mozart, Haendel fait partie des compositeurs préférés de Beethoven. A son sujet, il écrivait : "Haendel est le plus grand compositeur qui ait jamais vécu. Je voudrais me découvrir et m'agenouiller devant sa tombe."

Le musicologue britannique Charles Burney (1726-1814) écrivait au sujet de Haendel : "(...) sa main était alors si grasse que les jointures, qui d'ordinaire paraissent convexes, étaient comme celles d'un enfant, présentaient des bosselures et des fossettes, jusqu'à en être concaves; et pourtant son toucher était si doux, le timbre de l'instrument chéri à un point tel que ses doigts semblaient croître en direction des touches."
