Entre l'automne 1800 et le mois d'avril 1802, Beethoven travaille à sa 2ème Symphonie, en ré majeur. La première exécution aura lieu le 5 avril 1803 lors d'un grand concert donné au Theater an der Wien. Beethoven a alors 32 ans.
