A tout juste 30 ans la compositrice, arrangeuse et pianiste Kathrine Windfeld a explosé sur la scène jazz danoise. Dès la sortie de son premier album, “Aircraft” (2016), qui la présentait à la tête de son propre big band, elle avait remporté le prix de « Meilleure nouvelle artiste danoise de jazz » à l’équivalent des Victoires de la musique au Danemark, se trouvant également nominée dans les catégories « Album de l’année » et « Compositrice de l’année ».

Le big band de Kathrine Windfeld a été l’un des rares à être invité lors de l’édition 2016 du festival Jazzahead. La performance a fait l**’unanimité auprès des programmateurs et du public.** Une cinquantaine de concerts plus tard, la danoise était prête pour ce deuxième album, « Latency », qui paraît chez Stunt (dist. UVM). Comme pour le précédent, “Aircraft”, ses compositions allient tradition et innovation, et mélangent groove, variations rythmiques ambitieuses, passages harmoniques sophistiqués, ballades poétiques et fougueux ostinatos via des arrangements explosifs, interprétés par un ensemble de jeunes, brillants et charismatiques musiciens. « Latency » est une oeuvre plus mature, enregistrée avec un groupe réduit, mais l’énergie, l’ambition et l’enthousiasme de l’opus précédent sont restés intacts ! Ça sonne bien et ça swingue. Celle qu’on considère comme la nouvelle star scandinave du big band, offre à ce format vieux comme le monde une touche de fraîcheur. Rien d’étonnant à ce que le critique américain Doug Ramsey la situe dans la lignée des grandes formations de Maria Schneider, Darcy James Argue, Christian McBride ou John Beasley’s Monkestra.
