Mary Halvorson est une des plus célèbres guitaristes de la jeune génération - une improvisatrice virtuose, une compositrice et arrangeuse particulièrement originale avec une profonde connaissance de la guitare. Dans l’album “ The Maid With The Flaxen Hair—A Tribute To Johnny Smith” qui paraît chez Tzadik, elle se joint à la légende vivant, Bill Frisell, pour rendre hommage à Johnny Smith, un guitariste qui a eut une énorme influence sur eux deux. Jouer neuf ballades associées à Johnny Smith et sa composition classique Walk Don’t Run, c’est un album essentiel de duos de guitare débordant de sensibilité par deux guitaristes majeurs de la scène contemporaine.
