Avant de se retrouver au sein du Cultisongs Trio, chacun des trois musiciens a parcouru une très large palette de répertoires originaux. C’est donc autour des chansons de Broadway qu’ils ont décidé de se réunir, comme un retour au parfum de madeleine, un hommage à la mélodie. C’est aussi qu’ils avaient envie de se lancer dans de nouvelles explorations à partir d’un langage devenu plus mature. Ces standards, matière première des grandes comédies musicales, résonnent singulièrement dans l’esprit de chacun des trois. Tels des comédiens, chacun puise dans son rapport personnel à cet univers pour nourrir le discours commun et ainsi proposer une relecture originale des airs choisis pour un « Off-Off Broadway » généreux et sincère.
