Titre éponyme de l'album, inspiré d'un voyage au Brésil, c'est une évocation du folklore musical capverdien en hommage à son père John Tavares Silva. "Ma mère était d'origine irlandaise et nègre, mon père d'origine portugaise, il est né sur l'île de Maio, l'une des îles du Cap-Vert." Horace Silver

Horace Silver : "J’ai le sentiment d’avoir retrouvé une fraîcheur revigorante avec ce nouveau groupe, confie le pianiste à la sortie du studio, et nous travaillons désormais dans le bon sens pour être aussi soudés que les musiciens jouant ensemble depuis longtemps." Song for My Father, enregistré en octobre 1964 pour le label Blue Note.

Recorded live in Copenhagen, Denmark, April 1968...
